THE NAME – IBERIA
The name of our restaurant, “Iberia,” is deeply rooted in the history of Georgia. Caucasian Iberia was an important ancient kingdom in the eastern part of present day Georgia and existed from around the 4th century BC until the early Middle Ages. It played a significant role in the political, cultural, and religious development of the region.
It is important not to confuse “Iberia” with the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). Although the names are similar, they are historically unrelated.
Modernday Georgia consists of several historical regions, including Iberia in the east and Colchis in the west. With the name “Iberia,” we honor the long history, strength, and cultural identity of our homeland.

THE GOLDEN FLEECE – THE SYMBOL OF OUR LOGO
Our logo features the famous Golden Fleece a powerful symbol from mythology closely connected to Georgia. In Greek mythology, the hero Jason travels to Colchis to obtain the Golden Fleece from King Aeëtes, with the help of Medea.
This story is not only mythology but likely has a real historical origin. Historians believe that in the region of Colchis, gold was actually collected from rivers using sheepskins. The fleeces were placed in the water, where gold particles became trapped in them possibly giving rise to the legend of the “Golden Fleece.”
OUR CONNECTION: TRADITION AND IDENTITY
By combining “Iberia” and the Golden Fleece, we unite two of the most important historical and cultural symbols of Georgia. They represent our roots, our history, and our pride in our heritage.
Our restaurant is more than just a place to eat it is a journey through the history and culture of Georgia. We want to offer our guests not only authentic Georgian cuisine, but also the stories and traditions that make our country so unique.
